The problem is how to remain an artist once she grows up”

"EVERY CHILD IS AN ARTIST"
by Holly Maitland Smith
It is said that art can occur at any time and any place, and that anyone could be an artist – just as long as the person is dedicated enough to the craft. Four-year-old Holly Maitland Smith is one such person, becoming an important piece of the art jigsaw puzzle as she shows just how she could turn a lyrical saying into something very real.
HOF Art together with Chalit Art Gallery welcome you to a new era in art appreciation, by proudly presenting the beauty, innocence, and purity of little Holly Maitland Smith. Her love for everything artistic led her to wield a paintbrush at the very tender age of three, and during the past year she has completed more than 200 pieces of art. This is proof of her dedication and how she has her heart set on becoming an artist; not only that, her work is of such quality that even adults are unable to take their eyes from her masterpieces. Indeed, second – and third, and fourth – glances are typical of those who see her work.
Of course, opportunity is the bread and butter of artists, the arms and legs that help to support and to move aspiring artists forward within the world, propelled by their imaginations to reach their dreams. Because of this opportunity and the understanding of her parents, who have supported her ability and allowed her imagination to unfold, little Holly has been given the chance to let her imagination take her wherever it may lead. This has become an important building block for her within her world view, and especially within her view of the art world itself.
There are many people who may protest, saying that this support may be pushing a little girl into something that she would outgrow later – who knows if she’d like to be an artist when she grows up? Even so, it cannot be denied that the artistic world exists on the basis of inspiration, of the presentation of works that inspire and create a wave of excitement throughout the hearts and minds of viewers. The artwork of this little girl is the presentation of her heart’s desires and inspirations, a fresh purity that she herself possesses and that has been carefully nurtured by her parents. The only thing they have really done is allowed one girl’s imagination to blossom and grow – it’s almost impossible to try to sculpt or mold someone’s imagination into a particular shape.
This is also a very important lesson that many adults need to learn, to give their children a chance and to support them in their endeavors, to allow their imaginations to grow and develop in the right ways.
